Lesson 2- How to introduce yourself

In this lesson, we are going to learn how to introduce yourself in Japanese. Please note that men and women refer themselves differently in Japanese. Are you ready to make Japanese friends?

Watashi- I, me, myself (used by women and men)

Anata- You (used by women and men)

Kimi- You (used by women and men, casual)

Boku- I, me, myself (used by men, casual)

Ore- I, me, myself (used by men, very casual)

Watashi is used by women typically. Men often refer themselves as “watashi” in business settings, which is more formal than Boku or Ore. Anata is hardly used. Instead, a conversational partner is referred by his or her name. We will go over this more later. Kimi is used both by women and men and is used more often than Anata.

Boku is used typically by boys and men. Ore is used by young men, which sounds very informal.
