Okinawa has the highest divorce rate in Japan

This is very interesting. According to Ministry of Health, Okinawa has the highest rate of divorce in Japan. It is a surprise, isn’t it? Okinawa is Japan’s southernmost prefecture, and it’s famous for warm weather and beautiful beach. According to sources, Okinawa has a high rate of domestic violence, so it might be related to the highest rate of divorce. Either way, it comes as a surprise to us.

It is also reported that the median household income is low in Okinawa, but it has high birth rate so that may contribute to divorce. I am not sure if this is true or not, but it is also reported that it is easier for the residents to divorce in laid-back Okinawan culture. Also people in Okinawa are positive and laid back. They don’t think it is shameful to be divorce. So they tend to file for a divorce if something doesn’t go wrong because of their attitude toward marriage. I am not sure how true this article is, but I know for a fact that people in Okinawa don’t really consider themselves “Japanese”, but they are their own people separate from main landers in Japan. They have their own language and unique culture.
