Japan’s Fall Foliage (Kouyou)

Japan's fall foliage

Japan has four distinct seasons, and fall months begin in September. The colors of leaves change around this time of the year. Leaves turn red and yellow and Fall Foliage is called “Kouyou” in Japanese. Temples and Shrines in Kyoto and Nara attract many visitors who come to enjoy fall beauty. The viewing of Kouyou has been part of Japanese customs for centuries.
