The Japanese Language Proficiency Test is a highly recognized examination that evaluates the proficiency of non-native Japanese speakers. Applicants for their website.

I usually use Genki 1 and 2 for my beginner’s classes. Generally speaking, those who consistently studied and completed Genki 1 have a good chance of passing level 4. Test takers have to understand and know the vocabularies and grammars covered both in Genki 1 and 2 to pass level 3 exam. There seems to be a big gap between level 2 and 3 now. Once level 5 is added, this gap should be adjusted.
