Samsung ditches its own logo from the Galaxy S6

When I visited my family in Japan, I noticed that what appears to be Samsung smartphone did not have its famous logo. The Glaxy S6 and Glaxy S6 Edge will go on sale in Japan on 4/23 but smartphones don’t have the Samsung’s logo so Japanese consumers wouldn’t know the smartphone they are getting are Samsong’s.

Why don’t they have to put the logo on these smartphones? Because they are being smart and Docomo and AU are co-marketers so Galaxy smartphones are just going to have either logo.

So why are they doing this? Because Korean brand has struggled to establish its reputation in Japan. Just like Hyundai, Japanese consumers are reluctant to purchase Korean products for whatever reasons.

Korea and Japan have had a long history of conflict and tension so they don’t necessarily get along with each other. In America, I see more Samsung TVs than Sonny’s sadly in Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Costco..major retailers. But Samsung-made handsets account for only about 5% of all the smartphones currently sold in Japan.

Galaxy brand has been doing well without the Samsung logo so they decide not to place this company logo again on the Glaxy S6 and S6 edge. What do you guys think? After all, it is just a business so the company would adopt the strategy that helps consumers buy their products so I guess this is working.
