cat coffee shop1Have you ever heard of Cat Cafes? Most coffee shops don’t allow you to bring pets but in this cat cafes, you can bring your feline friends while sipping your delicious coffee in Japan.

Isn’t that incredible? There is such coffee shops in Paris and also in Japan!

I brought my conure to starbucks in the U.S. and although she was in a cage, the clerk was quick to say that they didn’t allow any kind of animal. I was already in line so went ahead and got coffee with my birdy. Some people say that cat cafes make Japan the coolest place to live. There are about 79 cat cafes in Japan and this is one of the coolest things to do there. So why did the owners of these cat cafe shops come up with this incredible idea in the first place?

Because most apartments in Japan prohibit pets. My sister lives in tiny studio apartment and she has a fish but that’s about it. Occupants who stay in this type of small studio apartments are typically lonely single young office workers who need time to unwind and heal from the daily stress. When I was in college, University (in the U.S.) had a group of therapy dogs come so college students can pet and play with them during the final. It was a way for the University to offer comfort and healing for us.

I personally think cat cafe is a great shop for Hikkikomori as they are withdrawn and are often hiding in their bedroom all day long. It would be hard for them to talk to family or even friends so they can start out by trying to communicate with cat through non-verbal communication. It is not just cat but dog is also effective.

Most customers stay for an hour or so but people who love the cat cafes or the cats stay for over five hours..wow.
