My Favorite Japanese Textbook Genki 1

I really like this Genki series because it is fun to go back to good old days in college and start over by learning Japanese language! This book is designed for young professionals and high school students as well as college and post college students. I personally recommend even older students to use this book because my former students who are 40s or above really enjoyed learning Nihon   go with this book.

There are specific characters throughout the book, good stories and many exercises you can do with your teacher. It is easy to follow and a lot of fun. I think it is important that you enjoy what you are learning.

Wa:Subject + Wa+ Noun/Object

*Wa is a particle

How do you say the following?

Watashi no otousan no namae wa Shinsuke Desu.

Watashi no tomodachi no namae wa Jenny Desu.

Watashi no imouto no namae wa Rika Desu.

Watashi no otouto no namae wa hiroto Desu.

Watashi no Itoko no namae wa Hina Desu.

Watashi no otousan no tomodachi no namae wa Michael Desu.

These were the ordinary sentences using wa particle.

Then how do you make the first sentence a question?

Let’s replace watashi with anata.

Anata no tomodachi no namae wa Jenny Desuka?

Is your friend’s name Jenny?

You just need to add “Ka”

Translate the following English sentences into Japanese!

What is your younger sister’s name?

What is your mother’s name?

What is your mother’s brother’s name?

What is your friend’s name?

Is your father’s name David?

Is your mother’s name Hiroko?

We can always exercise more by expanding our questions and that’s how we can learn a new language a little more efficiently.
