Nelson Mandela R.I.P.

My friend told me about Nelson Mandela’s death..she asked if I knew him..I said no..It just didn’t click right away..as soon as I find the news about his death online and saw his picture, of course I know him! He is the hero, who freed South Africa from horrible apartheid system. He fought for equality and justice in South Africa and he inspired people all around the world. I think we have what we have because of people like Nelson Mandela and Martin Ruther King Jr. These people were willing to sacrifice their lives to make the world a better place and even though their fight for equality and justice meant risking their lives, they didn’t stop. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18th, 1918 and became President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black South African President and he fought against apartheid, the system that we just can’t comprehend today.:( Before becoming President, he was arrested and actually served 27 years in prison. Although Mandela’s presidential term ended after the first term, he continued to focus on charitable work to fight against poverty and HIV/AIDS through his foundation. I only know him from my history book in school..and some documentaries that I saw back home. He was 95 years old and he will forever be remembered as a hero and a symbol for justice and equality.
