Japan’s suicide forest inspires its own horror movie

Hollywood is doing it again!

If you are on social media, you probably have seen the advertisement or a trailer for a new horror movie called “The Forest.”

It is about infamous Aokigahara which is also known as the Suicide Forest or Sea of Trees forest that is located at Mount Fuji’s northwest base in Japan.

The Forrest movie is about a young woman who go to Aokigahara in Japan to look for a missing twin sister. All these creepy things happen then.

Critics are complaining that the film turned this controversial forest into a cheap horror movie.

Aokigahara is a pretty scary place for many Japanese as it is a very popular site for suicide. Japanese people often associate Aokigahara with demons, ghosts and spirits and suicide!

My American friend is really into hiking and she loves Japan. Out of the blue, she asked do you know anything about that beautiful forest right by the Mt. Fuji? I am visiting my Japanese friends but they aren’t really into hiking..maybe I can just hike on my own and come back.

“Are you kidding me?”, I said to her.

The number of attempted suicides has been increasing yearly and it is a crisis situation in Japan. It is a disgrace that people would make movie out of this no-joke forest. If it is a serious documentary such as the one

There are signs that urge those who go there to take their own lives to think twice and think about their families.

I saw the documentary filmed by VICE and they did a great job capturing how spooky Aokigahara but most importantly viewers understand the urgency of the situation, like something must be done immediately to stop these people from going there. That forest is so dense and once you enter deeply into the forest, you can’t find your way back.
