Online petition calling for Youtube to remove Logan Paul

I don’t know how many of you guys have heard of Logan Paul. He is a famous 22-year old youtube celebrity and makes crazy daily Vlogs. I had never heard of him before, but apparently he is now the most controversial Youtuber because of his recent video.

Just to show you how popular Paul is: His videos have almost 3 billion views and makes 13 million a year. I guess creating a controversial headline is one of his ways of drawing new visitors to his channel.

We are only a few days into the new year, but he recently came under fire for uploading a video that shows the footage of visiting “Aogigahara” which is known as suicide forest in Japan. The video was titled “We found a dead body in the Japanese Suicide Forest..”

He didn’t just go there to record the footage, but he came across the corpse of a suicide victim in Japan’s suicide forest and uploaded the footage.

Paul is 22 years old and has over 15 million followers, so you can imagine how quickly his video went viral. Now Japanese police wants to speak to Paul even though he was not obligated to report a body.

Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. I wrote about this before, but suicide forest is a popular location for those who are contemplating suicide to actually carry out a plan. Although the government has been trying hard to do something about this social issue, since there is no religious stigma against suicide, suicide used to be portrayed as an honorable way to take responsibility of making mistakes, bothering other people. failing..

Lots of high ranked officials committed suicides after the Word War 2.

But Paul has released a couple of statements apologizing public for his lack of judgement and sensitivity. He said.
I’ve made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment and I don’t expect to be forgiven. I am simply here to apologize.”

“None of us knew how to react, or how to feel..I should have never posted the video. I should have put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through.”

What infuriates the audiences is the scene that he and his friends were laughing nervously in the video after discovering the dead body in suicide forest. He says these were “raw and unfiltered reactions and he should never have posted this video in the first place.

After apologizing, Paul released another statement explaining that he was just trying to raise awareness of male suicide but it did not sit well with the viewers of his video. He said he didn’t do this to garner the views, but I personally don’t buy that. He did that to garner the view which leads to profit. He might have taught about the good cause of raising awareness, but you don’t raise awareness by showing the raw footage of dead body and nervously laughing about it undermines the seriousness and the suffering of this dead man.

It almost came across as Paul making light of suicide. He wasn’t doing that to raise awareness. If it was his true intension, this video was shot differently.

What is troubling is that these people who really don’t have ispecial talent or put an effort to produce something can become famous with a mic and a webcam these days.

Well at least Logan Paul is done for now. He stops vlogging to take time to reflect his mistakes. But this scandal has increased the number of Paul’s followers sadly.

But lots of people are upset with Paul’s outrageous video:

This is absolutely right. Suicide forest should never been portrayed as a sensational tourist spot. Because it isn’t. It is a continuous reminder of tragedy and helplessness among the suicide victims and their loved ones in Japan.

Conclusion:

I am not sure if he should be removed from youtube because of this outrageous video. Yes, it was wrong for him to show the dead body of suicide victim lightly, and even though he was just trying to show unfiltered raw emotions in front of camera, it was still insensitive of him to do that.

His team did call the police, but again he said he was supposed to film a spooky side of infamous Japan’s suicide forest, but what he was originally trying to do (to introduce this tragic place sensationally to garner views) was wrong to begin with.

Nevertheless, he is very young and has already apologized for it. Since a few celebrities have publicly dissed Paul, this was a very hard lesson for him to say the least. Youtube also released a statement but I am not sure if they can actually ban Logan Paul from having his own channel because of this mistake.

I wish he really thought about the consequences of uploading such video. He has many teenager followers who look up to me, and there are people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts or lost someone because of suicide. This video is very hurtful for those people even though Paul says suicide is no joke and mental illness is no joke.

Even if he were to show the blurred corpse of suicide victim in his video, he could have changed the whole theme of his video..no laughing, no raw emotions..cussing..create a short documentary on suicide and how serious it is in Japan. But instead, the whole focus of his video was to show how outrageous his experience was in suicide forest..(it was his first time seeing a dead body)..His channel is about provocative content that pushing the limit, but then “suicide” is NOT the right theme for him to feature under his name.
