Japanese dogs
|
These dogs are native of Japan and they were everywhere back home. Especially the Shiba ken and Akita ken are popular even in the United States. I grew up seeing these types of dogs all the time. Japanese people prefer to get non-Japanese dog breeds. According to sources, the following are the original Japanese dog breeds.
Akita, Shiba, Shikoku, Kai, Kishu, Hokkaido, Tosa.
All dogs excluding Shiba are named after the area of Japan.
Akita ken (秋田犬)
The Akita is a prefecture located in northern Japan. Akita inu came from Akita. Akita inu has erect ears and curled tail, and they look more like fox to me. They are loyal, smart and easily trained. Japanese people often keep them as guard dogs.
Shiba inu (The Brushwood Dog)
Shibainu looks similar to Akita inu, but they are smaller than Akita inu.
