Taxi drivers in Japan report ghost passengers

I want to share this interesting article that I came across yesterday. Some taxi drivers in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture where almost 19,000 people were killed when massive tsunami struck the area in 2011. I am sure that many of you remember the level of devastation struck Japan in 2011. .

A powerful tsunami killed almost 19,000 people. To this date, Victim’s loved ones and friends who survive the disaster are grieving.

Given the lingering devastation, one student at Tohoku Gakuin University decided to conduct research on ghost passengers in the area since 2011. This is for her thesis project. So she interviewed over 100 taxi drivers.

As we can imagine, many of them get annoyed and just ignored her. But she managed to speak with some drivers who were willing to share their chilling story. One driver says he remember this woman got into his taxi and then he asked her for destination. She mentioned the area that is now empty as the part was struck very hard by tsunami.

So he did tell her..”The area is empty but is it ok? Is that where you want to go?” Then this woman starts to shiver and said “Have I died?” and when he looked back, nobody was there. There was another case in which a passenger got into a cab, and asked the driver to take him to somewhere odd. When the driver arrived at the destination, He looked back to ask for payment and he was gone..

There could be many more stories like this. I grew up in Japan and have heard this kind of stories over and over. So I never want to be a taxi driver in Japan. Yikes! And they have to start charging these ghost passengers the taxi fares.

Or maybe..these drivers are also recovering from the devastation that had hit him and his family in 2011. Mental health specialists say that some survivors see illusions because of their anxiety and stress.

What do you think?
