Utaga Hikaru’s mother committed suicide

Utada Hikaru is a popular Japanese pop singer and music producer and her mother, Fuji Keiko died on Thursday morning. Fuji jumped off 13th floor in her apartment building in Tokyo and killed herself at the age of 62. Her body was found with the pool of blood around her. She was living with a male friend in his 30s and it is reported that the male was a friend of hers and was staying at her place and sleeping in a separate bedroom. Police did the investigation and ruled out the possibility of foul play. The singer’s ex husband, Utada Teruzane, has identified the body and both he and Utada Hikaru released comments on their website.

Fuji Keiko’s real name was Utada Junko and she also became a successful singer in late 60s. She was 17 years old. In Utada Hikaru’s comment, she revealed that her mother struggled with mental illness for many years and that she truly hopes that her mother is at peace in a better world.

I cannot imagine what her daughter (Utada Hikaru) is going through now. It is one thing to lose a family member to terminal illness or accident but it is especially difficult for remaining family members to cope after losing their family to suicide. Utada Hikaru is my favorite artist and I truly think she is a talented singer song writer. I hope that this experience will make her stronger and her healing process will be smooth.
